Fraunhofer CSE Researcher Authors New Text Book on PCM

Dr. Jan Kosny, Fraunhofer CSE Building Enclosure Program Lead, has authored a new text book on Phase Change Materials (PCM) entitled Enhanced Building Components: An Application of Phase Change Materials in Building Envelopes and Internal Structures.

Presenting an overview of the use of PCM within buildings, this book covers the PCM performance in enhanced building envelopes and internal building fabric components. Additional chapters highlight a range of PCM-related research, including: PCM-enhanced building products in development; current whole-building PCM field testing; and experimental and theoretical analyses methods used to determine dynamic thermal and energy performance characteristics of building enclosure components containing PCMs.

As one of the first textbooks solely dedicated to PCM, this book is intended to be a valuable reference to architects, researchers, engineers, and students in the building materials and systems fields.

Dr. Kosny, a winner of a 2009 R&D 100 Award for the development of phase-change materials, is one the world’s leading building envelope researchers with over 30 years experience in the building sciences. Enhanced Building Components: An Application of Phase Change Materials in Building Envelopes and Internal Structures is his first published book.
